I was at the Ethical Consumer Conference on Friday and heard some really interesting and eye-opening presentations – and contributions from the audience.
Memorable content for me revolved around these quotes:
- Brand positioning only exists in the minds of consumers
- There is sometimes a tendency to over-state your ethical credentials: this could be called “green-washing”
- “I pity the man who wants a coat so cheap that the man or woman who produces the cloth will starve in the process” (President Benjamin Harrison)
Great presentations about Fairtrade and the challenges in influencing others to support their ethos; from the Forest Stewardship Council in promoting sustainability; and from various others about ethical accreditation and consumer confidence in it.
Thanks to Ethical Consumer for a fascinating event.
